Fluoride Applications

At Classic Smiles Dentistry, besides fluoride treatments, we strongly encourage our patients to maintain a regular dental exam, and cleaning, in order to keep their teeth healthy.

Acid-producing bacteria that collect around the teeth causes tooth decay and can develop a sticky, clear film called “plaque.” Without good daily oral hygiene and regular dental visits, teeth become more vulnerable to bacteria.

What are the benefits of a professionally applied fluoride treatment?

A professional dental fluoride treatment is one of the most effective ways of preventing tooth decay and maintaining excellent dental health in children and adults. Fluoride treatments are both safe and effective. Fluoride acts as a shield for the outer enamel layer of the teeth and even has the ability to reverse early dental decay in some cases.

Receiving a fluoride treatment from our dentist

At Classic Smiles, a fluoride treatment takes just a few minutes. A topical fluoride treatment is applied at our office after you have received a professional cleaning. Usually, a fluoride gel or foam is placed in mouth shaped trays (affectionately known as duck trays) and inserted into the mouth for your teeth to “soak” in the solution for a few minutes. After a fluoride application treatment, the doctor will suggest you not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes to allow for optimum absorption. Fluoride can re-mineralize small imperfections in the tooth enamel by attracting calcium to the teeth. It can actually make teeth stronger! Years of research and use, have proven fluoride to be a safe and effective means of fighting and preventing tooth decay.

Our doctor may also prescribe an at-home fluoride product such as a mouthwash, gel, or antibacterial rinse.

How to choose the right fluoride treatment for home use

Brushing twice a day and cleaning between teeth with floss, or another type of inter-dental cleaner helps remove plaque. When choosing your own at-home fluoride product such as toothpaste or mouthwash, always check for the American Dental Association's (ADA) seal of acceptance. The ADA has carefully examined products marked with the ADA seal of approval and approved based on safety and effectiveness.

Vinicia G. Vinicia G.

"This is by far the best dental experience that I have ever had! Nakecyia was super welcoming when I initially called. I tried calling three dentists prior to reaching this office and was put on hold for extended periods of time by the other offices. She took my call right away and helped schedule an appointment sooner than I even expected!! This was enough for me to tell my boyfriend to call right away and schedule and appointment because we were both looking for a dentist in the area. She accommodated him just the same! Then we met Dr. Nwadike and the rest of the staff and they all had the exact same welcoming personalities!!! I speak for myself and my boyfriend when I say that we would ABSOLUTELY recommend this office to anyone who is looking for a dentist. Thank you Dr. Nwadike and team!!!!"
